What is the Iconsoft PhonEx software?
Iconsoft Phone Extension or PhonEx is a new generation program implementing a new type of user interface for managing the main functions of a telephone, built on the basis of the Iconsoft Mobile Engine - IME.
PhonEx opens up new possibilities for easy interaction using simple touch, without the stylus, while retaining all the capabilities of a Windows Mobile device.
What are the palmtop system requirements for installing Iconsoft PhonEx?
PhonEx is supported by the majority of modern palmtops made for the Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.X platforms.
How do I install Iconsoft PhonEx?
To install you need to download the latest version of PhonEx. You can download the version for installing from your PC or a .CAB file for installing directly on the Windows Mobile device. Before installing, synchronize your device and PC.
Installation from Desktop PC
Desktop installation file will automatically install this application on your Windows Mobile device as well as optional desktop components on your desktop PC.
- Download appropriate install setup file.
- Make sure that you have Microsoft ActiveSync (for Windows XP or older) or Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista and Windows 7) installed on your desktop computer.
- Insert your device into the craddle (connect the USB cable) and check if ActiveSync/WM Device Center is connected.
- Run the installation file on your PC by double-clicking it on your Windows Desktop. This should be done while your device is synced.
- The installation program will install files to your computer's hard drive, then establish a link with your device, copying the needed files to your handheld's onboard memory.
- Follow the instructions on the screen of your device.
Installation from Windows Mobile device (installing .CAB file)
Device installation .CAB will install all necessary components of this application on your Windows Mobile device.
- Download appropriate installation CAB file.
- Copy the CAB file into your device.
- If you have your device connected to Internet, you can skip the above steps and download the .CAB file directly to your device.
- Click the copied CAB file on your device (in File Explorer) to install it.
- Follow the instructions on the screen of your device.
How do I register PhonEx?
If you officially purchased the program, you may register it in one of three ways:
Online registration (recommended)
This is the easiest and fastest way to register your copy of the program. This method is available if your device has Internet access. If your device does not have Internet access, you need to use the second or third registration methods.
- Launch the application and open the registration window.
- Choose the upper item – Online registration (recommended) and press Next>.
- In the new window enter the email address you used when purchasing the product.
- Press the Register! button. If you indicated the correct info, a window will appear with a message on successful registration.
Manual registration (Registration on the site)
This is a convenient way to register if your device does not have Internet access for online registration, but you have access to a PC with an Internet connection.
- Go to the Registration Center and choose the upper item Product registration.
- In the Email field indicate the email address you used when purchasing the product.
- In the Product ID field indicate the product number, which you can find in the window Phonepad -> About.
- Click the Send button. If you indicated the correct info and registration is successful, you will receive a serial number which you will need to enter in the registration window of your device.
After receiving the serial number.
- Launch the application and open the Registration window.
- Choose the item Manual registration and press Next>.
- In the new window enter the email address you used when purchasing the product and the serial number you got from the web site.
- Press the Register! button. If you indicated the correct info, a window will appear with a message on successful registration.
How do I install Iconsoft PhonEx theme?
- Download appropriate installation CAB file.
- Copy the CAB file into your Pocket PC device.
- If you have your device connected to Internet, you can skip the above steps and download the .CAB file directly to your Pocket PC.
- Run the .CAB file on your device.
- Follow the instructions on the screen of your device. The theme must be installed to the same place that PhonEx is installed into.
- Go to Phonepad->Options->General->Use PhonEx theme: to change theme.
How do I add a photo to a contact?
In the Favorites or Contacts section select a contact and press the arrow on the right. You will then see the Contact Info window. Press the Edit button, then in the second level menu choose Photo and you will see the window for working with files. Open the image you need, set the size of visible area and press Done.
How do I add a tune to a contact?
In the Favorites or Contacts section select a contact and press the arrow on the right. You will then see the Contact Info window. Press the Edit button, then in the second level menu choose Ringtone and you will see the window for working with files. Choose the audio file you need.
How do I create a new contact?
- In the Contacts section open the second level menu and press New.
- In the Calls section choose the telephone number which is not in the contact list yet, open the second level menu and press Save.
- In the Phonepad section press Save. If the entered number is not in the contact list, a new contact will be created.
How do I delete a call or list of calls?
In the Calls section choose the contact whose call history you wish to delete, open the second menu level and press Delete, then confirm deletion. The Delete All button fully clears the entire list of calls.
To delete one call from a contact, in the Calls section choose the contact whose call history you wish to delete and press the arrow on the right of the contact. You will then see the Contact Call History window. Choose the call you wish to delete and press Delete in the lower right corner, then confirm deletion.
What is the second level menu?
For convenience and greater functionality PhonEx has a second level menu for each section (Favorites, Calls, Contacts and Phonepad). To open a second level menu press the main section button a second time. You will then see the submenu with a choice of items.
How do I display or hide SIM contacts?
Open PhonEx Options and in the Contacts tab turn on/off the “Show SIM contacts” option.
How do I find the calls history?
In the Calls section select the contact whose call history you wish to see, and press the arrow on the right of the contact. You will then see the Contact Call History window for the chosen contact.
How do I add or remove a contact from Favorites?
To add a contact to Favorites, in the Contacts section open the second level menu and press Favorites. The selected contact will be added to the Favorites. To remove a contact from Favorites:
- Select the contact marked with a star, open the second level submenu and press Except.
- In the Favorites section select the contact you wish to remove, open the second level submenu and press Except.
How do I find the PhonEx settings?
To enter the settings, in the Phonepad section open the second level submenu and press Options.
How do I edit a contact?
In the Favorites or Contacts section select a contact and press the arrow on the right of the contact. You will then see the Contact Info window. Press Edit and in the second level menu and choose Contact. The contact editing window will then appear.
How do I get and enter the serial number?
To get a serial number, you need to purchase a licensed copy of Iconsoft Phone Extension. You can enter the serial number directly in the program – launch PhonEx and press Phonepad twice. In the second level menu choose Registry.
Enter the serial number and press OK.
I don’t have PhonEx Today on my screen.
Go to the menu Start->Settings->Today->Elements, find the PhonEx item and turn it on.
How do I change the phone profile using PhonEx?
On the Today screen press and hold the Phonepad button. A second level submenu will appear where you can change the phone profile or turn on/off the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
How do I find a contact quickly using the first letter?
Open PhonEx and press the main button of your palmtop computer. The ABC window will appear where you can choose the first letter from the contact list, to which you want to switch.
How do I launch PhonEx and set up the environment to work with it?
- To launch the application, press any PhonEx Today button.
- Start->Programs->PhonEx
- If the option “Run on Windows startup” is turned on, PhonEx will launch automatically when the palmtop computer is turned on.
PhonEx normally takes several seconds to launch.
If your device has additional programs that shut down applications (for example SpbPocket Plus), add
PhonEx to the list of exceptions. This is necessary for fast and stable work of the application.
How do I view the full contact info?
Main contact info such as list of phone numbers, workplace, position, e-mail, web page etc. is available in the Contact Info window. To go to the Contact Info window, in the Favorites or Contacts section select the contact whose info you need to view and press the arrow on the right of the contact. You will then see the Contact Info window.
If the necessary information is not in the Contact Info window, but does exist for that contact, press Edit in the Contact Info window and in the second level submenu press Contact.
How do I set one the numbers of a contact to be the main one?
By default the first number added to a contact is the main one, i.e. when a contact is called the main number will be dialed. To change the main number of a contact, in the Contact Info window choose the number you want to make main, press Edit and in the second level submenu choose Make Main. The main number is marked with a green symbol.
How can I make a quick call using PhonEx Today? (favorites, calls)
On the Today screen press and hold Favorites or Calls for 2 seconds to open the second level submenu. For the Favorites menu these are the 5 upper contacts, and for the Calls menu these are the last several calls. Press one of the contacts to make the call.
How do I change the background and image for an Incoming Call?
Open Contacts->Submenu->Filter->Submenu->Category->Photo. Below in this item you can assign an image which will be used as background.
The /Iconsoft/PhonEx/Media folder contains a library of images that you can use as the call background.
How do I change the format a telephone number is displayed in?
Open Phonepad->Submenu->Options and on the Format page assign the format for displaying telephone numbers in PhonEx.
How can I change the standard SMS and Email application for a different one? (for advanced users only)
Support for launching different (third-party) SMS and Email applications has been added [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Iconsoft\ PhonEx\ Options]:
- SMSClientApp – path to SMS application
- SMSClientParam – launch parameters (%s is the phone number)
- EmailClientApp – path to Email application
- EmailClientParam – launch parameters (%s is the email address)
